Skunked!

Well, it's happened.  I woke up around 5:00 am, leaving the dogs out in the yard for their morning pee.  Panther came running back in the house, which is unusual for him.  Normally, I have to clap and whistle to get him back in the house.  Then I smelled it...but not before he ran through the house.  I grabbed him and put him on the enclosed porch and yelled for Mr. Grey.  He quickly googled "How to remove skunk odor" on the internet, and I ran a bucket of soapy water.  Panther stood still and let me scrub him with a wet sponge.  I think he wanted the smell gone as much as I did.  Then since I had to go to work, I went upstairs to try and scrub the smell off of myself.

Mr. Grey read to try peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap.  He gave Panther two proper baths with this concoction and went on to rid the house of any lingering smells.  When I returned from work, I brought home a skunk remover from my local pet store.  It says you can also use it on laundry.  This will come in handy to wash the bedding.  I must say Panther smells much better.  Unless you smell his head, which we had to be careful washing, you can't really tell that he was skunked.  I can't say as much for his collar.  Good thing I picked up a new one at Greyhounds in Gettysburg!

Now before their morning pee, I bang on the door, flick the lights on and off and make a lot of noise.  I'm not sure if this works for the skunk but I'm sure the neighbors wonder what I am up to.

Do you have any skunk odor remedies?  How about how to keep skunks out of your yard?  Let me know, I'll take all the help I can get!
