Does Your House Look Like This?

You would think we have ten dogs instead of two.  We have dog beds all over the house.  We have at least three in the bedroom.  I don't know why but the Greys are picky about their beds.

Panther is pretty protective of the couch.  He thinks he owns it.  If you are sitting in his spot on the couch, he will stare you down until you give him the spot by the pillow.  If you try to sit on the couch with him, he will kick you and stretch out until there isn't any room left.

Even though some days my house looks like a hurricane hit it, I love the Greys and all of their beds!  How many beds do your dogs have?  Do you have a bed in each room?  Is there any one bed superior to all others?  Send me a message and let me know.

Tooth Trouble

Maggie had to have seven teeth pulled on Monday.  She has horrible teeth and her gums are always red.  I have tried brushing.  I have tried special chew toys.  The only relief she gets is when she is on prednisone.

Nothing ever goes the way you plan it.  First of all we had to drive in the freezing rain Monday night to pick Maggie up from the vet.  She seemed fine for a few days but she was on pain meds and really didn't notice her teeth.  On Friday, the meds were gone and the soft food had Maggie's tummy upset. Now we had a new problem.  Saturday we started Maggie on hamburger mixed with rice.  Panther gets a little as well.  We can't have anyone getting jealous.  The mixture seems to be working.  I hope the greys don't think that hamburger has been added to their menu.  I planned on having that hamburger sometime next week for dinner but... I think this was more important.  I'll be keeping my eye on Maggie this week, just to make sure everything is back to normal.  At least as normal as it can be with two boys and two greys in the same house.  :-)

New Year Updates

We're Back! Just In Time for Some New Year Updates!

I have no good excuse for being gone so long...just lots going on and nothing too interesting on the DIY front. The boys have finally finished football...
Panther enjoys dressing the part...

Maggie is scheduled to have a few teeth pulled. She has always had tooth problems.  I am hoping this helps.  Her gums are always bright red.  Ouch.  I feel so bad for her.  The vet has her on prednizone, which helps, but I hate to keep her on it for a long period of time.  I'll let you know how this works out for her.

Do any of your greyhounds have problems with their teeth or gums?  What types of treatment(s) have you tried?  Please let me know.

Trip to the Vet

This week was our yearly trip to the vet.  Dad loaded us in the car.

We love to go for rides.

Mom said the good news is that we are healthy.  The bad news is we have to cut down on our treats.  Maggie gained five pounds since last year!  She is always finishing anything I leave in my bowl.

I only gained two pounds.  I don't see why I should cut down on treats!

Do any of you have to watch your weight?  Let me know how you manage to stay lean.

Labor Day Weekend

We've been offline for almost a week. Hurricane Irene knocked out our internet and our service provider couldn't get us up and running until Thursday evening. I don't think the greys even noticed.

Our pay it forward cause is greyhound adoption.  Since adopting two greys, we love helping out our local greyhound adoption group - Nittany Greyhounds.  We like to attend fund raising activities and take the greys to the annual picnic.  Speaking of picnics, we hope everyone takes some time off this weekend to relax and enjoy.  Have a greyt labor day weekend!

Skunked!

Well, it's happened.  I woke up around 5:00 am, leaving the dogs out in the yard for their morning pee.  Panther came running back in the house, which is unusual for him.  Normally, I have to clap and whistle to get him back in the house.  Then I smelled it...but not before he ran through the house.  I grabbed him and put him on the enclosed porch and yelled for Mr. Grey.  He quickly googled "How to remove skunk odor" on the internet, and I ran a bucket of soapy water.  Panther stood still and let me scrub him with a wet sponge.  I think he wanted the smell gone as much as I did.  Then since I had to go to work, I went upstairs to try and scrub the smell off of myself.

Mr. Grey read to try peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap.  He gave Panther two proper baths with this concoction and went on to rid the house of any lingering smells.  When I returned from work, I brought home a skunk remover from my local pet store.  It says you can also use it on laundry.  This will come in handy to wash the bedding.  I must say Panther smells much better.  Unless you smell his head, which we had to be careful washing, you can't really tell that he was skunked.  I can't say as much for his collar.  Good thing I picked up a new one at Greyhounds in Gettysburg!

Now before their morning pee, I bang on the door, flick the lights on and off and make a lot of noise.  I'm not sure if this works for the skunk but I'm sure the neighbors wonder what I am up to.

Do you have any skunk odor remedies?  How about how to keep skunks out of your yard?  Let me know, I'll take all the help I can get!

Wipe Out

This weekend we were "wiped out" from the heat.

Good thing momma has a squirt bottle to keep us cool.  She would spray us down and then we would lay in front of the fan.  We have a baby pool but we haven't figured out how to use it.  We think it is a giant water dish.

We did go out some in the morning when the air was still cool.   This was quite enjoyable.

Momma says we should enjoy this weather.  Six months from now we'll be wishing for 80 degrees and sunny!
