Trip to the Vet

This week was our yearly trip to the vet.  Dad loaded us in the car.

We love to go for rides.

Mom said the good news is that we are healthy.  The bad news is we have to cut down on our treats.  Maggie gained five pounds since last year!  She is always finishing anything I leave in my bowl.

I only gained two pounds.  I don't see why I should cut down on treats!

Do any of you have to watch your weight?  Let me know how you manage to stay lean.

Labor Day Weekend

We've been offline for almost a week. Hurricane Irene knocked out our internet and our service provider couldn't get us up and running until Thursday evening. I don't think the greys even noticed.

Our pay it forward cause is greyhound adoption.  Since adopting two greys, we love helping out our local greyhound adoption group - Nittany Greyhounds.  We like to attend fund raising activities and take the greys to the annual picnic.  Speaking of picnics, we hope everyone takes some time off this weekend to relax and enjoy.  Have a greyt labor day weekend!

Skunked!

Well, it's happened.  I woke up around 5:00 am, leaving the dogs out in the yard for their morning pee.  Panther came running back in the house, which is unusual for him.  Normally, I have to clap and whistle to get him back in the house.  Then I smelled it...but not before he ran through the house.  I grabbed him and put him on the enclosed porch and yelled for Mr. Grey.  He quickly googled "How to remove skunk odor" on the internet, and I ran a bucket of soapy water.  Panther stood still and let me scrub him with a wet sponge.  I think he wanted the smell gone as much as I did.  Then since I had to go to work, I went upstairs to try and scrub the smell off of myself.

Mr. Grey read to try peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap.  He gave Panther two proper baths with this concoction and went on to rid the house of any lingering smells.  When I returned from work, I brought home a skunk remover from my local pet store.  It says you can also use it on laundry.  This will come in handy to wash the bedding.  I must say Panther smells much better.  Unless you smell his head, which we had to be careful washing, you can't really tell that he was skunked.  I can't say as much for his collar.  Good thing I picked up a new one at Greyhounds in Gettysburg!

Now before their morning pee, I bang on the door, flick the lights on and off and make a lot of noise.  I'm not sure if this works for the skunk but I'm sure the neighbors wonder what I am up to.

Do you have any skunk odor remedies?  How about how to keep skunks out of your yard?  Let me know, I'll take all the help I can get!

Wipe Out

This weekend we were "wiped out" from the heat.

Good thing momma has a squirt bottle to keep us cool.  She would spray us down and then we would lay in front of the fan.  We have a baby pool but we haven't figured out how to use it.  We think it is a giant water dish.

We did go out some in the morning when the air was still cool.   This was quite enjoyable.

Momma says we should enjoy this weather.  Six months from now we'll be wishing for 80 degrees and sunny!

Long Weekend

Ah.  We love a long weekend!  They are great for long walks and long naps.

The only negative factor is the fireworks. :-(  We hate them!  Maybe our mom will buy us some Thundershirts to make us feel better.  Mom might even get to sleep through the night.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Relay for Life

This Saturday, our community had an ATV Relay for Life event.  The greys did not participate but we watched the ATVs drive through the community.  Every block in town was decorated in pink and purple.  It is always nice to see everyone come together to support a cause.

At The River

I just returned from Ocean City, MD.  The weather was great but I couldn't wait to return home to see the greys.

I think the warm weather followed me home.  Today on our walk, I took the greys to the river.  They like to dip their feet in the water.

At one point, Maggie walked out a little too far and she had to swim.  I saw a look of panic on her face so I had to give her a little help getting back to dry land.

How do your dogs feel about water?  Do they have a kiddie pool or a favorite swimming hole?  Drop me a note and let me know.

Stay cool!

Dinner Time

Happy Saturday!!!

I think my greyhounds are spoiled.  They now eat dinner from their beds in the kitchen.  Panther started this and now Maggie wants her dinner served in bed.  When it is time for dinner, everyone politely lays down and waits to be served.

It's my own fault for having beds in the kitchen.  The greys like to be near family and we spend most of our time in the kitchen.

What is dinner time like at your house?  Is it busy and loud or calm and quiet?  Let me know.

New Fence

Now that the weather is a little nicer the neighbors are out for their evening walks. Panther thinks it is fun to hide behind our large pine tree and then spring out at them - barking loudly! He gets a lot of excitement out of this. The neighbors...not so much. :-(

Mr. Grey had the idea to put up a buffer fence to keep the dogs back 10 feet or so from the main fence. We took the dogs outside, showing them the new fence. Everything went well until...a small dog walked passed our house. Panther was off like a shot. Straight through the buffer fencing. Thank goodness the fencing is only plastic or Panther may have been hurt. That idea lasted all of 30 minutes.

Do any of you have problems with your dogs barking at passers by? Maggie could care less, but Panther thinks it is a game. He did not do this last year. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I don't want people to complain or think that Panther is a "mean" dog.

Greyhounds in Gettysburg 2011

I just returned from Gettysburg. I had a greyt time, even though I left the kiddos at home. Maggie just doesn't travel well. She cries the entire time in the car. I met lots of nice people and their dogs. So much greyhound merchandise, I could have spent a fortune. I bought each dog a new collar, a tag clip and a new greyhound sticker for the car.

There was an adoption group for Afghan sight hounds.  The puppies were so cute.

I also attended a greyhound group ghost tour.  The greyhounds were very well behaved.  It was probably a good thing that we did not see any ghosts!!!

I really enjoyed Gettysburg.  Thanks to all for a super event.

How a Greyhound Takes Off His Jacket

Here is a cute video of Panther removing his jacket after a walk. I have had to patch this jacket several times because he bites holes in the coat. I try to remove his jacket before he does, but today I thought I would catch it on video.

Do you have any cute videos of your pets?  Include your link so I can check it out!!!

Spring?

We went for a walk today without jackets. Does this mean that spring has sprung? We've been fooled before.

Greyt day for a little butt sniffing.

Lots of walking.

And plenty of sunshine.  How do you enjoy a spring day?  Let me know.

Moocher

Panther is the biggest moocher. He will place his head on your arm and give you the sad eyes until you give him a bite.

Let me know what sort of "tricks" your greys will do for food.

Greyhound Pedicure

Today was greyhound pedicure day.  I use a rotary trimmer.

Maggie quite enjoys it.  She will nap through the entire pedicure.

Panther on the other hand...

I can only do 2 or 3 nails and he will run and hide.  Today he tucked his feet up under his body so I couldn't get at them.

I'll just try a little every day.  Do you use a rotary tool or regular nail trimmers?  Post a comment and let me know.

Hope you have a greyt week!

New Grey

We have a new member of the "Grey" family.  He/she came home with us on Saturday from Nittany Greyhounds.  Panther had to check him out!

Panther is so silly.  He had to bark at the new dog.  Every time he goes outside, he has to smell the new dog.  Maggie doesn't seem to notice the new addition.  We need to give the new "dog" a name.  Send me an e-mail with suggestions!
